A Love Letter From Your Bookshelf
An original poem by Caroline & Katherine Brickley
When you were little,
you read little books.
And I held them for you.
As you grew,
your books grew, too.
And I held them for you.
Sometimes you hugged them tight,
and other times you tossed them on the floor.
And still, I held them for you.
The ones with folded corners,
sticky fingerprints, broken spines,
and dreams tucked between their pages . . .
. . . those I held the closest.
Year after year,
I stretched a little wider,
stood a little taller,
and grew a little stronger.
So I could carry
the stories you outgrew,
the ones you read again and again,
and the ones still waiting for you.
But most of all, I grew
to make more room for you.
For who you once were.
For who you were becoming.
Each chapter of your life
is cradled on my shelves.
And I will hold them.
Always.
